Virginica is a movement to bring the modern home landscape into greater balance, greater capacity for life, greater sustainability, and greater beauty. Rooted in deep listening, Virginica fosters a balanced relationship with nature through channelings, designs, methodologies, and the timeless act of hands in the soil.
Neighborhoods filled with wild gardens. A way of life where refuge does not need to be sought outside of daily routine, because the refuge nature offers is allowed to flourish in everyday life and ordinary environments. A world where the tender ones are tended to (the tenderness within ourselves included).
The purpose of Virginica is to foster reciprocity because the Earth gives us so much; to cultivate biodiversity because life leads the way for more life; to create beauty because we are meant to delight in our surroundings; to act sustainably so the systems we create and shape can support themselves; to tend to tenderness because therein lies our strength, and to foster connection with our surroundings because all of us belong.

Hello, I'm Clara, the founder of Virginica.

In my nine years as a professional garden designer, I have created some lovely gardens. The thing that always means the most to me though, is when clients share with me how they now go outside with their coffee in the morning and they love the peaceful start to their day. Or, a parent tells me their family goes out to play in their garden every evening after dinner and it's become their favorite part of the day. And my heart could burst when I get a call from a gleeful client saying that even though the garden was just installed yesterday, they have already seen a dozen bumblebees and a huge yellow butterfly.
I grew up in Montana getting to spend time in untouched wilderness as well as the carefully maintained gardens of my grandmothers and mom. Nature has been my constant companion. I have always felt how much nature, plants, insects, birds have to say to us, and it is my greatest honor to help develop that truth in my client's lives.
Virginica was created as a vessel to help express the way I experience being in the garden, what I believe gardens can be and do, and the hope I hold for humanity's relationship to the nature we are. ​
